Social Networking Platforms; Youtube and Facebook
What are some ways (corporate and otherwise) that these technologies can be used?
Facebook, youtube and other social networking platforms can be used for both corporate and otherwise. For example they can be used in the corporate world to describe their brand; A corporate firm can shoot a youtube video to tell customers of its brand as well as it products. They can also choose to vlog and interact with their customers. In addition, corporates can use facebook pages and ads to reach out to a huge customer base as well as use the same platform to interact with potential and existing customers. On the other hand, Social networking platforms can be used for personal purpose and otherwise corporate ways. For instance, a facebook group can created where we can be communicating class matters. People also get facebook personal accounts as well as youtube ones.

What are the benefits of these technologies to society?
The social networking platforms have lately proven to be very useful especially in not only educational purposes but also to convey social ills in the society. For instance, the youtube video of the conversation between a customer and AOL customer care representative as well as that of the Comcast technician. Both of those videos show the world how AOL and Comcast service looks like (Nalt, 2006, Complaints Board, 2007). After a potential customer sees this video they may want to their options. As such, social networking platforms are useful indispensable tools in modern day world.

Is there a ‘dark side’?
The technologies have a downside such as today our children have access to these social networking platforms and not only these but also internet and they can get exposed to weird content such as pornography. This will change the way they view things and may be interfere with their value system as well as moral fabric. Social networking can also ruin the reputation of an organization. For instance, it might no be the case, that Comcast technician are lazy (Complaints Board, 2007). In my opinion, Social networking platforms in future will be concentrating on innovation that enhance more secure interactions. The issues of impersonation on social media will be on a downward trend.
